English for IT Intermediate Part 2 (B2)

English for IT 2 is a complete course that will prepare students to work in the English language field of IT. The course begins at an intermediate level and takes the student to an upper-intermediate level, which is the lowest language level a person can expect to be able to work in effectively.

The English for IT course and certification exam have been designed specifically to prepare students for the world of work.

It is aimed at the following non-native English speaking target audiences:

Course Syllabus

Learn about the subjunctive mood, logical deduction and “since” as a conjunction. Listen to a networking training session, and read about network protocols.

Learn about negative future tenses and how to make polite requests. Learn how to deal with angry customers, and read about the difference between features and bugs.

Understand “they” as singular, and learn how to use “yet” when emphasizing a point. Listen to the the evaluation of a test report and read about Unix and Ubuntu.

Learn how to use phrasal verbs, cleft sentences and fronting, listen to software engineers outlining a plan of action, and read about cloud computing.

Learn about comparatives and the adverb “always”. Listen to a network report, and read and email from a network engineer to colleagues.

Understand polite phrasing, the difference between “even if” and “even though”, and the difference between the past perfect and past simple. Listen to a recording about sparring sessions, and read about how to share feedback.

Certification

English for IT B2 / GSE 59-75 is a selected response English-language certification exam that tests a candidate’s ability to communicate in English at the upper-intermediate level (CEFR B2, GSE 59-75). It specifically tests a candidate’s knowledge of the structure of the language (i.e. grammar, syntax, and semantics) and a candidate’s ability to read and listen in English.

The certification holder is able to read and listen within the field of IT to an upper-intermediate level, as well as understand and effectively use all the grammar and vocabulary of the upper-intermediate level pertaining to the field of IT, in particular the fields of software development, security engineering, network engineering, product management and customer and technical support.

Becoming certified in English for IT B2 / GSE 59-75 ensures that the individual possesses a level of English that is sufficient to begin work in entry-level positions that require a basic understanding of the English language. The certification furthermore enables the individual to continue to a higher level of English language learning in order to become even more proficient in the use of the English language.
