English for IT B2 Upper-Intermediate | Course 2

English for IT B2 Upper-Intermediate | Course 2 is the second course in a two-part English for IT sequence for learners working toward CEFR B2 / Global Scale of English (GSE) 59–75. The course continues from Course 1 and helps learners use English more clearly and confidently in IT study and work.

The English for IT B2 course sequence helps learners prepare for real communication in international, English-speaking, and multicultural IT environments.

This course is aimed at the following non-native English-speaking audiences:

  • students in high school, college, or university who want to study or work in IT;
  • early-career IT professionals who want to improve their English;
  • software developers, network engineers, security engineers, product managers, and IT support specialists;

The course develops practical English through realistic IT topics, including network engineering, customer support, software engineering, and product management.

Learners practice grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, and workplace communication skills. They work with situations such as asking for feedback, comparing technical options, evaluating test reports, discussing software issues, explaining network recommendations, and updating colleagues.

  • Listening: Customer support situations involving feedback and difficult customer interactions.
  • Reading: The difference between a feature and a bug.
  • Skills: Asking for feedback and responding clearly in customer support.
  • Grammar: Singular they; emphasis with yet.
  • Listening: A software test report.
  • Reading: Operating system options.
  • Skills: Evaluating information and comparing software-related options.
  • Grammar: Phrasal verbs; cleft sentences; fronting with adverbial phrases.
  • Listening: Software engineers discussing a plan of action.
  • Reading: Cloud computing.
  • Skills: Identifying software issues and explaining possible actions.
  • Grammar: Comparatives with while and whereas; the adverb always.
  • Listening: A network report.
  • Reading: An email from a network engineer to colleagues.
  • Skills: Defending a point of view and explaining network recommendations.
  • Grammar: Polite phrasing; even if and even though; past perfect and past simple.
  • Listening: A product management sparring session.
  • Reading: Sharing feedback.
  • Skills: Updating colleagues and sharing feedback in product management.

Certification pathway

English for IT B2 Upper-Intermediate | Course 2 completes the two-part English for IT B2 course sequence.

After completing Course 1 and Course 2, learners will have practiced the grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, and workplace communication skills needed for B2-level English in IT contexts.
